What's it all about?

Everyone's talking about cloud computing but what's it all about? In a nutshell, the goal of cloud computing is to have access to all of your email, contact information, files and calendars from whatever piece of equipment is nearest to you. That can mean sitting on a beach in Hawaii with your tablet in your hand, standing in a field in Galway with your smartphone, waiting in a coffee shop with your laptop or sitting at your desk with your desktop PC...all the information, all synchronised, all of the time.

What do you get?

Email: We all know about Gmail the fantastic email service from Google. The Gmail service is also available for organisations who have their own domain names. For example all email from WeFixIT.ie is actually hosted by Google and sent from Gmail servers but there is no mention of Gmail anywhere in the message i.e. it appears completely professional to those who receive your emails. If you have company email addresses e.g. info@widgets.ie you will still use the same email address and your emails will not appear to have come from Gmail. Each user has at least 30GB of storage available to them.

Calendars: You can have multiple calendars which you can choose to share with colleagues or keep private. You can use the calendar to set up meetings, add recurring events and then have reminders for your appointments pop up on your computer screen, sent to you as an email or even sent as a text message to your phone for free...or as I do, all three just to be completely sure I don't miss an appointment!

Google Drive: Google Drive is everywhere you are—on the web, in your home, at the office and on the go. So wherever you are, your stuff is just...there. Ready to go, ready to share. Get started with the invluded 30GB of space. Your phone goes for a swim. Your laptop takes an infinite snooze. No matter what happens to your devices, your files are safely stored in Google Drive. Google Drive lets you do more than just store your files. Share files with exactly who you want and edit them together, from any device.

Google Docs: Google Drive gives you instant access to Google Docs, a suite of editing tools that makes working together better—even when your team mates are miles away. You can create and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations with the need for Microsoft Office.

Google Sites: The website you're looking at is a Google Site! Google will host a website for you at no extra cost. Google Sites are easy to build and easy to edit and you have the option of having private sites just for use within your company or a public website available to your customers.

Google Analytics: A suite of tools which lets you slice and dice information about visitors to your website. See how many visitors you get, where they come from, what pages they look at and a whole more.

What devices can I use?

Any computer with an internet connection and an internet browser...it's that simple. If you're using a phone you will get the best experience if you're using an Android phone. Why? Because Google are the people who make the Android operating system and any Android phone will dovetail easily with all of the services above. It's the same with tablets, an Android tablet will give the best results.
